The Jonas Brothers Help “Chevy Rock The Future”

Filed under: cars-houses, events, events: la, green and famous, music, products, thegreenpicture, transport — parrish @ 11:14 am

You know what they say: “Just a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down.” Well this afternoon, Chevy (the medicine) and Disney (the sugar) are teaming up for Chevy Rocks the Future at The Walt Disney Studios.

Chevy Rocks The Future will introduce attendees to Chevy’s lineup of gas-friendly vehicles and new green technology while treating them to the music (or something like that) of the Jonas Brothers. “Being eco-friendly is important to us,” said Nick Jonas. “We worked with our record label to come up with the first-ever CD-VU+ format, a 100-percent recyclable package.”

The Jonas Brothers have worked with Chevy before and drive the Chevy Tahoe 2 Mode Hybrid SUV- a car that Ecorazzi has deemed only mildly impressive. While the Tahoe 2 Mode gets substantially better mileage than other SUV’s in its class, its still is far from being the greenest hybrid out there. And why the hell does everyone need SUV’s anyway SERIOUSLY!!

Listen, the good thing about this showdown is that it really does encourage young people to think about the environment. Recently, Chevy started the Promise to Live Better educational campaign, which asked kids to make promises to live a more eco-friendly life by doing things like shutting off lights, using canvas bags and wasting less water. So far, more than 11,700 students have made promises in the classroom, and more than 26,000 people have made promises online.

So whether you’re going to Chevy Rocks the Future or not, grab your local preteen (or as Chevy calls them, “precustomer”) and teach them a thing or two about saving the world. I mean come on…WWJD (What Would The Jonas’ Do)?

New York City Will Have Green Balls This New Year’s Eve

Filed under: buildings and construction, events, events: nyc, music, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 1:09 pm

Come on, you have to admit that is a brilliant title!  Tonight, my current stomping ground, New York City, is celebrating one of it’s most famous Times Square traditions-the New Year’s Eve ball drop.  This year however, NYC will also be starting a new tradition.  The famous ball is officially going green, baby!!

The 1,415-pound ball will be covered in more than 9,500 energy-efficient light-emitting diodes that will illuminate the ball’s over 600 crystals and set the sky a blazin’.  Officials (whatever that means) say that the LEDs are estimated to use the same amount of electricity as about 10 toasters, which is like the craziest, most super cool thing I’ve ever heard.

As always, my precious little city will rock New Years eve celebrity style with musical performances by Hannah Montana, The Jonas Brothers, Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Lifehouse, The Bravery, and alums from Fox TV’s American Idol, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis

So take that N train downtown and come celebrate the end of 2007 with the lot of us. Did I mention Hannah Montana will be there?
