We mentioned it a few days ago, but now more details of StumbleUpon’s “Thumb-Up For Trees” campaign with former NFL star Tiki Barber have come to light.

If you hit their official page, you’ll see that SU has partnered up with the organization Friends of the Forest to plant a tree for every thumb their “Tree” page receives. So far, almost 2000 6000 thumbs have been turned into 6,000 trees! From the site,

“Simply use the StumbleUpon toolbar to thumbs-up this page and, from now through May 2, with every thumbs-up StumbleUpon will plant a tree with help from the National Forest Foundation. Your thumbs-up means more trees for America’s National Forests and more visibility for this cause. Give a “Thumbs-Up for Trees” and spread the word!”

Of course, Tiki isn’t just offering his name, he’s also auctioning off a lunch date and his seats at a NY Giants home game. All proceeds raised will go to helping the National Forest Foundation. Check out Tiki’s video below — and then jump over to SU and help plant some trees!

Tiki Barber And StumbleUpon Promote Thumbs For Trees

No, you’re not going to have to part with your opposable digits. Nor are you expected to hitchhike across the country. Instead, former NFL star Tiki Barber and StumbleUpon want to turn your clicks into trees — lots of ‘em — by thumbing up websites you find during Earth Day.

Wait a minute, you’ve never heard of StumbleUpon? My friend, you are missing out on a layer of the Internet that truly adds to the experience of playing with the World Wide Web. Basically, StumbleUpon helps you discover websites based on your interests, learns what you like, and brings you more – its like your personal concierge for the web. When you find a site you like (oh say, like Ecorazzi), you give it a thumbs up up on the toolbar. When you find one you dislike (like, Exxon or Kentucky Fried Chicken) you give it a fat thumbs down.

You can get a clearer picture of what I’m talking about here by visiting the SU site. Turning thumbs into trees is a brilliant idea — and for someone like myself thatthrows around a bunch of thumbs everyday, knowing they’re helping out the planet is even better.

The campaign is set to go live April 22nd.
