Steven Tyler, Kiss and Dee Snider Help VH1 Rock Autism!

Filed under: campaigns, contests, donations, events, music — sara @ 12:33 pm

You may have seen the VH1 Rock Autism campaign PSAs on TV. An old school aficionado myself, I was pretty stoked to see Steven Tyler, KISS, Dee Snider (of Twisted Sister), and several other rockers who are older than my father yet still kicking ass taking on this cause! If you haven’t caught it yet, you can see their PSA, “Rock Autism,” here.

Tomorrow Rock Autism is having a Celebrity Bowl-Off at Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood, from 7 to 10 PM, with benefits going to three different autism charities–Act Today, the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, and the HollyRod Foundation. It will be hosted by Dave Navarro and Holly Robinson-Peete, and rocker bowlers will include Meat Loaf, Slash, and members of Anthrax, Great White, Ratt, Warrant, Candlebox, Lit, Cinderella, and L.A. Guns.

This is definitely something I would have sold a body part to attend when I was a teenager.

There will also be a silent auction of rock memorabilia, including signed guitars from Linkin Park and Tom Petty. Tickets are $150 and all go toward fighting autism. To get yours, visit Vh1ClassicBowloff.com

KFC Uses Celebrities As They Attempt To Look Charitable

Filed under: animals, campaigns, events, food & drink, not green, television — parrish @ 3:24 pm

Does KFC really have a heart? The answer to that question is: NO!! I’m sorry, but as someone who cares even a smidgen about the well being of animals, I really can’t write anything positive about KFC…but it looks like they sure want me to.

Kentucky Fried Cruelty has just introduced a promotion for their new hot wings (aka spicy heart attack sticks) that will hopefully gain them some Super Bowl airtime.  Here’s the deal: if any football player or celebrity performer does the chicken dance during the Super Bowl on Feb. 3, KFC will donate $260,000 to the KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program, a scholarship that gives money to high school seniors who plan on attending public in-state schools.

KFC is notoriously known for having some of the most brutal and horrific slaughter houses and refusing, under any amount of pressure, to do ANYTHING that might improve the conditions for their animals.  You know I’m all for giving credit where credit is due (even if it’s a big corporation that I don’t particularly like) but this “generous” act is so obviously just a poorly disguised ploy to steal some precious airtime.

The unofficial rumor is that Justin Timberlake and Tom Petty will be among some of the celebrity performers and that Ryan Secrest will also be hanging around.  Let’s hope none of them dance for the devil.

To learn more about why you should never, ever, in a million years, ever support KFC…visit Kentucky Fried Cruelty.
