NBC Launching New ‘Green Your Routine’ Campaign With Eco-Stars

Filed under: television — stephanie @ 1:52 pm

Next Sunday, November 16th, kicks off NBC’s ‘Green Week’, when NBC Universal will host 150 hours of environmentally themed programming across the company’s television and digital platforms.”‘Green Your Routine’ is about educating consumers that it’s easy, practical and economical to be green,” said Beth Colleton, Vice President of Green Is Universal. “Asking consumers to help ’save the planet,’ or ‘clean up the oceans,’ sounds daunting to the individual. If everyone pledges to green even one simple aspect of their daily routines, such as walking to work, shopping with a reusable bag, or taking a shorter shower, together we can make a difference in our own lives and impact the environment.”

The ‘Green Your Routine’ campaign will feature celebs talking about what they do in their own lives to be more eco-friendly, and the line-up of participating talent is huge! Just a handful of the stars who will be giving their tips include John Krasinski of The Office, Jane  Krakoswki and Jack Brayer of 30 Rock, Masi Oka and Zachary Quinto of Heroes, Tori Spelling, Tiki Barber, Debra Messing, Ann Curry, Meredith Viera, Al Roker and the ladies of Lipstick Jungle.

Be sure to tune into NBC next week, Nov. 16th – 23rd, to catch all the celeb tips and green programming! Check out the whole list over at NBC ‘Green is Universal’.

Tori Spelling Has A Solar-Powered Salt Water Pool

And it's for sale as part of her modest Westwood home.

tori spelling westwood home

I’m not saying that Tori Spelling doesn’t have a portfolio of homes, but it’s nice to see that at least one of them is only 3,300 square feet. The Westwood, LA property is currently being listed for $2.3 million and features five bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, all-hardwood floors, built-in barbecue and a solar-powered saltwater pool with a Baja shelf and spa.

The solar-powered salt water pool is a nice eco-touch — and a great way to save cash on heating costs, while avoiding the toxicity of using chlorine. According to Jason from Low Impact Living, “An average pool can use $1,000 to $1,500 of natural gas per year to heat if a pool thermal cover is used. Without a cover, gas costs can rise to over $3,000.” In contrast, “A solar pool heating system will probably cost about $2,000 to $3,000 installed, and will provide about 75% of the energy needed to heat the pool,” Jason says. “This means that it will pay for itself in about three years.”

It’s not just her home that features some green touches — Tori is also dedicated to keeping her family natural too. She recently said, “When we had babies we tried really hard to do the research on environmentally friendly products and switch over for their health. We have loved Going Green! And, whenever possible we make sure Liam eats organic. Its important to us.”

Tori Spelling Fights SIDS With New Charity Auction

Filed under: art, babies and bumps — sara @ 4:09 pm

As a mom, I can vouch for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) being a terrifying worry for anyone with kids. Research is constantly changing (Put your baby on her side! No, her back, her back! Hang her upside down with one sock on and smear organic yogurt on her forehead!) and there’s no absolute way to prevent it–or to even know what truly causes it. So I’m pretty stoked about the new Style My Stroller Campaign.

The campaign, stemming from the CJ Foundation for SIDS, is featuring strollers (donated by Maclaren) designed by Tori Spelling, Ashley Simpson, Angie Harmon and Marissa Jaret Winokur that will be auctioned off by Charity Folks to promote SIDS Awareness Month and raise some funds for the CJ Foundation. Celebs getting artsy again for a good cause… I love it.

The auction will run October 6 through 13, and you can also catch the designs on display at Babies”R” Us in New York City’s Union Square.

Razzi Snap: T-Pain Gets an Eco-Friendly Ride

Filed under: cars-houses, green and famous, music, transport — sara @ 10:14 am

flower pinkRapper T-Pain bought an eco-friendly black-on-black Limited Edition Ford Flex from Maroone Ford of Miami. And who was at home eagerly awaiting his new earth-hugging purchase? Oh, just Beyonce.

flower pinkWhile Isabel Lucas and Adrian Grenier are apparently splitsville following the Transformer 2 starlet’s unfortunate car ride with Shia LaBeouf, that hasn’t stopped the actress from caring about her causes. Supporting gal pal Hayden Panettiere, Lucas attended the Whaleman Foundation benefit alone.

flower pinkOwen Holmes, bassist of the indie band Black Kids, hasn’t eaten meat since Thanksgiving 2004. “I just kind of weaned myself off dairy and eggs,” the cutie told Peta2. For more on his veggie goodness, watch his interview.

flower pinkRichard Branson was listed as one of the Top 25 Most Powerful People, Forces and Trends influencing the meetings industry in 2008 by MeetingNews, most notably for his pledging $3 billion to fight global warming through his new investment unit, Virgin Fuels.

She recently told Tasty Baby, “When we had babies we tried really hard to do the research on environmentally friendly products and switch over for their health. We have loved Going Green! Jessica Alba Uses Socially-Conscious Sausalito Store

Filed under: babies and bumps, shopping — sara @ 10:50 am

Jessica Alba isn’t alone in her quest for socially-conscious baby gear. Along with Tori Spelling, Halle Berry, Katie Holmes and Jennifer Garner, the actress likes to shop at Sausalito’s Serena & Lily, a revolutionary business that, according to its mission statement, “values healthy communities and the human spirit.”

It does this through supporting organizations that help underprivileged and at-risk women and children, like Baby Buggy, Quilts for Kids, and a Homeless Prenatal Program. They also offer some eco-friendly choices, like low-VOC paint. Now that’s putting dollars to good use.

Much Love Bunnies! The Razz Goes Bow Wow At The Playboy Mansion

Filed under: animals, campaigns, ecorazzi exclusive, events: la, green and famous — anna @ 8:57 am

playboy mansion bunnies

It wasn’t just bunnies on Hef’s mind this past Saturday night as the Playboy Mansion played host to the Much Love Animal Rescue 2nd Annual Bow Wow WOW! Celebrity Fundraiser. A bevy of gorgeous and philanthropic stars turned out to hang at the Mansion and raise money for the non-profit, Much Love, which is a no kill charity that finds homes for hard to place dogs and cats in LA animal shelters, as well as providing medical care, rehabilitation, and spay and neutering services. Founded in 1999, and run by a team of dedicated volunteers, they have already managed to place over 2000 animals in good homes.

Hosted by the hilarious and spontaneous talents of Rachael Harris from Notes from the Underbelly, and Kevin Nealon of Weeds fame, the evening honored celeb activists Amy Smart (Iconic Activist Award), Good Day LA’s Jillian Barberie Reynolds (Superstar Spokesperson Award), Jerry O’Connell (Celebrity Rescuer Award), Hef’s lovely gal pal, Bridget Marquardt (Gold Heart Award), and Chela Landau (Community Liaison Award), who were all commended for their service to animal welfare. Guests were treated to a lavish vegetarian buffet courtesy of the Mansion’s personal chef, music by DJ Stryker, and a live auction including a 2008 smart fortwo car and walk-on roles in TV shows and movies, with all proceeds benefiting Much Love Animal Rescue.

Out in support of our animal friends was the gorgeous Kate Walsh (Private Practice) who, even after being pooped out after an intense red carpet sess, graciously stepped back on to say hi to all you “Razzi’s.” Also attending were Inn Love and Home Sweet Hollywood love-bugs Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott. Sadly Tori recently lost her best friend, Pug Mimi La Rue, but has launched the “Mimi La Rue Foundation,” a non-profit to raise funds to rescue sick and injured pets in shelters.

Ravishing in red was Girls Next Door and “PETA” pin-up Holly Madison who gave us a fab pirate impression whilst sporting one of the Mansion’s cockatiels, Cloe, on her shoulder. Antonio Sabato Jnr, Grant Show, Sheri Stringfield, Paula Abdul, Gary Shandling, and Joy Lauren were also in attendance, and to cap off the event, the big dog himself, Hef, made a surprise appearance.

All in all, and in true Playboy style, it was a swinging event. Between the Much Love spokes-dogs, girls in full bunny regalia, and naked painted lady all mingling with the stars on the red carpet, it was exactly what you’d expect of a party chez Hef. But beneath all the excitement the message was passionate and clear. Let’s get to work on decreasing the number of pound pups and kitties needlessly euthanized in shelters each year, and put puppy mills out of business.
