Ecorazzi Frolics In Farm Sanctuary’s Star-Studded Winter Wonderland

Filed under: ecorazzi exclusive, events, events: nyc — parrish @ 10:48 am

Farm Sanctuary is kind of like that gift that keeps on giving. I mean seriously, how can you not leave these guys?! As the nations leading animal rescue organization, Farm Sanctuary strives to see a world where the violence that animal agriculture inflicts upon people, animals and the environment has ended, and where instead we exercise values of compassion.

Last night Ecorazzi had the honor of attending the organizations Winter Wonderland for the Animals event and catching up with a few of our favorite Hollywood do-gooders. The evening was held at the beautiful Art Directors Club in midtown Manhattan and was jam packed with New York’s most compassionate crowd.

Upon arrival we made our way to the press area and said hello to Corey and Susie Feldman, Jennifer Coolidge, Daniella Sea and many more. Of course the evening wouldn’t be complete without a little face time with Alison Becker, Loretta Swit, Chloe Jo Berman, Victoria Moran, Karen Dawn and Joshua Katcher. We also spotted Ally Sheedy, Tatum O’Neal, Peter and Mary Max and Princess Superstar

After all that celebrity chatting we were STARVING and so we headed on over to the beautiful array of all vegan nosh, provided by some of New York’s hottest restaurants. Truthfully, everything we tasted was out of this world, but a few of our personal favorites were Dr. Cow’s all raw vegan cheese (order this right now, it will change your life), Candle 79’s Seitan Chimichurri and Lula’s Peanut-Butter Fudge Ice Cream! A-FRIGIN-MAZING!!!

The evening closed with a lively auction to help raise money for all of Farm Sancutary’s important work and a speech by co-founder, Gene Baur! Oh and we have some GREAT news!! Staring next Monday, Ecorazzi will be bringing you six full days of Farm Sanctuary Exclusive interviews with the parties hottest stars! That’s what I’m talking about! So make sure you check back next week to see why Hollywood can’t get enough of this wonderful organization, and visit FarmSanctuary.org to find out how YOU can get involved!

Bjork Thinks Going Green Will Help Solve Iceland’s Economic Troubles

Filed under: campaigns, green and famous, music — parrish @ 1:47 pm

Iceland is in some serious trouble and Bjork thinks going green just might help! Bjork thinks the best way to rescue her country’s ailing economy is by supporting local eco-friendly businesses and using the financial slump as an opportunity to clean up the environment.

Bjork became angry when she learned the government had plans to build two huge aluminum smelters — insisting that authorities promote greener fuel choices. In a recent article on TimesOnline, she wrote:

“To take this much energy from geothermal fields is not sustainable. We are facing a disaster from betting everything on finance. If we build two more aluminum smelters, Iceland would become the biggest aluminum smelter in the world… It would leave little room for anything else. If the price of aluminum falls - as it is doing - it would be catastrophic. Iceland can be more self-sufficient and more creative - and still have an approach that is more 21st than 19th century. It can build fewer, smaller and greener dams.

“Let’s use this economic crisis to become totally sustainable. Teach the world all we know about geothermal power plants. Support the Icelandic seed companies. Support the grass roots. It may take longer to build and deliver profits but it is solid, stable and something that will stand independently of the rollercoaster rides of Wall Street and volatile aluminum prices. And it will help Iceland to remain what it is best at: being a gorgeous, untouched force of nature.”

In other Icelandic news, best-selling inspirational and vegan author Victoria Moran (who’s seriously like a God over there) is currently in Iceland giving talks and trying to raise spirits! Moran is a friend of Ecorazzi and we wish her all the best! Keep up the good work, Victoria!

Farm Sanctuary Gala Exclusive: Bestselling Author Victoria Moran And Filmmaker William Melton

Filed under: green and famous — parrish @ 1:40 pm

I am sad to say that today will be the final day of our Farm Sanctuary Gala exclusive interviews! During the last week we’ve brought you the words of presidential hopefuls, famous actors, music moguls, television personalities and many more! But it wasn’t JUST movie stars and television hosts I got the chance to speak with. I also spent some quality time with two bestselling authors — Rory Freedman and Victoria Moran.

I first contacted Victoria almost 3 years ago after reading her book Fit From Within and being totally wowed! Over the years I’ve attended the premiere of her latest book Fat, Broke and Lonely No More and I’ve even taken a class she offered at The Learning Annex here in NYC. Victoria is passionate about healthy living and shares that passion with her readers. Here’s what she had to say:

Parrish: Hey Victoria. It’s so great to see you again! Talk to me about your involvement with Farm Sanctuary.

Victoria Moran: Oh we’ve been supporting the Farm Sanctuary for a long time. In fact I first met Gene when he was traveling cross country in 1986 with the idea of Farm Sanctuary. Now I’d supported animal rights for a long time, but the idea that somebody would actually do something for the individual animals was an entirely new concept and we’ve just been watching the whole thing grow over the years.

P: Now I know you’re vegan, which is obviously super green, but give me some other ways on how you live the green lifestyle.

VM: Well we’re hoping we’re going to be able to move into a fabulous green condominium in Harlem — which would be really wonderful. When you think about all the things that go into how we live there are just so much we can do. In my regular life what I’m trying to do now is eat a lot more raw foods. I feel better. It is so exciting. There’s less packaging. There’s obviously less use of fuel. I get everything at the farmers market. The whole thing is just a simpler, simpler life!
