Stefanie Powers Helps Save Late Actor’s African Game Sanctuary

Actress Stefanie Powers, a veteran of over 200 televisions appearances – as well as the star of ABC’s ’80s hit “Hart to Hart”, reveals in a recent article how she helped save an African ranch and game sanctuary owned by the late Oscar-winner William Holden.

Originally started as a safari club, Holden had the ranch turned into an animal orphanage and sanctuary shortly before his death in 1981. After his passing, Powers and the other partners in the business created the William Holden Wildlife Foundation — which features an educational center and teaches children about the animal and plant life of the region. From the article,

“‘We do not allow boom boxes. We do not allow portable telephones. That all is left at the door,’ Powers says. ‘This is a natural experience. It is for students to come and understand nature, and to do so, you cannot have headphones on.’ There are 37 species of wildlife on the preserve adjacent to the center, and the foundation offers programs on animal conservation and environmental protection.”

While Powers still travels back and forth between Hollywood and Kenya, she says her home is truly Africa. “And it is beyond me, now,” she says. “I am helpless. It is part of my cells.”
