“I’d rather go naked than wear fur” is one of the most well-known phrases in the animal activist world and now Oscar winner and new mom Penelope Cruz is jumping on the bandwagon and posing for PETA’s anti-fur campaign. At least, she looks naked based on the preview.

PETA’s Lisa Lange said about Cruz’s involvement, “Penelope has appeared on every ‘best-dressed’ list in the world, and the one thing you’ll never see her wearing is fur. PETA couldn’t ask for a more fitting emblem of the modern, glamorous woman who knows that there’s nothing more beautiful than a woman who has a look that kills without anyone having to die for it.”

New Yorkers will get the full view of a fabulous 70-foot billboard near New York City’s Penn Station. It will debut on Wednesday. They just released a bit of a teaser.

penelope cruz to pose naked for PETA's anti-fur campaign

Early last week, PETA decided to have a little fun with their followers on Twitter by throwing out hints on who could be the next to pose for the organization. It was revealed an Oscar winning actress fit the profile, but as for which one, they kept mum. Obviously, Cruz fits, because she won the best supporting actress Oscar for “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”

The other hints given took some time to decipher, but after our very thorough investigative work we discovered the following.

Hint #1: She was not born in the U.S. & speaks 4 languages.
Cruz was born in Madrid, Spain and speaks Spanish, Italian, French and English.

Hint #2: She is a new mom.
Cruz and husband Javier Bardem gave birth to son Leo on January 22, 2011.

Hint #3: She has 3 numbers tattooed on her ankles.
Cruz has “883” tattooed on her ankle, but has yet to reveal what it means.

Ta-da! See how easy that was?!

The 37-year-old actress is no stranger when it comes to taking a stance against animal abuse. While starring in the film “Manolete,” which tells the story of a famous bull fighter played by Adrien Brody, Cruz wrote a letter to PETA declaring the treatment of bulls was cruelty-free.

“Penelope Cruz is as disturbed as you are by cruelty to any animal. Her contract requires that no animal be harmed in any way during the filming of Manolete and certainly that no bull be killed,” her manager revealed in the letter.

“If we hadn’t been guaranteed that no animal will be hurt during the filming of Manolete, Penelope would never have agreed to make the film. Penelope has three dogs, one of which she rescued from a certain death when on location in Mexico, and three cats which she got from the pound. She refuses to wear fur nor will she appear in a photo with someone wearing fur.”

Sounds like she’s the perfect fit for PETA’s campaign!

I don’t understand how this is news of any kind. For the past quarter century celebrities have been preferring to go naked rather than wear fur (though most of them will wear leather). Then they decide they just prefer the publicity and when some designer asks them to be in a show or sends them some bit of animal skin to wear, they decide it really doesn’t matter how other animals suffer, and they change their minds.
After about 25 years, the fur industry, which suffered some damages during the 1990s, has seen a disgusting upsurge. Obviously these ads aren’t working.
We need to find something that works, and getting hypocritical celebrities on the side of ethics is clearly not doing the job.
I just don’t even know how this passes as news any more.

Does the same Penelope Cruz, who is the image of L’Oreal brand test on animals? Is it that Penelope Cruz has publicly declared to be in favor of bullfighting in Spain? Simply incoherent.

I’m Spanish and I just wanted to say that Penelope likes bullfighting, she does wear fur and she is the image of L’Oréal (we all know it tests on animals). I don’t like her at all ’cause she’s so hypocritical.

The shame Carly Lewis claims veganism casts over her is more likely the ghosts of moral uncertainty, spectres that are more likely fish than cows, wondering how morality can possibly be used as ammunition in favour of murder.
