Just in time for the holiday season comes probably the best calendar of the new year: the 2015 NYC Rescue Man Calendar featuring hot guys and their adorable rescue pets.

What makes this calendar the best calendar in the history of calendars is not only because of its aesthetically pleasing pics, but also because it’s all for charity.

The calendar was developed by two New York City animal organizations, Pillows for Paws and Grandpa Dave’s Creature Comforts, and profits will go to enrichment programs for NYC animal shelters. The charities were started by actor Felicia Greenfield and casting director Jen Halpern, respectively, who were also the brains behind the calendar.

“Jen and I have been brainstorming over coffee for two years about all things animal rescue,” Greenfield told Affect Magazine. “At one of these meetings in early July, Jen casually threw out the concept of combining our work–casting and acting–with our passion of helping animals via a calendar featuring inspirational NYC men with their actual rescue animals.”

The NYC Rescue Men Calendar was hence born. The men are a mix of celebs (“Baywatch” actor David Chokachi) and others are friends of Greenfield and Halpern.

And there aren’t just pretty pictures, either. Inside, the twelve NYC men share the inspiring stories coming to the rescue of their pets.

“We are raising awareness about ‘regular guys’ knowing the importance of adopting their animals, and never buying them,” explains Greenfield, whose husband makes an appearance in the calendar.

And for those who would like to know what enrichment programs means?

“Giving animals a toy to play with or a bed to relax on while they wait for a forever home reduces stress, keeps them stimulated, and makes them more comfortable,” explains Greenfield. “All of this makes the animals more appealing to potential adopters.”

This calendar would make a wonderful addition to your eco and animal-friendly items on your holiday list. And, of course, no one would blame you if you saved it for yourself.

Month one of “the year of the vegan”

News outlets are abuzz with the promise of new vegan products, celebs, and services and how that is somehow a fresh affirmation that our world is one turn closer to being fully free from animal use.

What About: “No-Kill” Eggs?

The reason for these advancements is not a sense of justice – because that can only mean going vegan – but is primarily driven by economics.

Don’t blame vegans for the shame you feel about using animals

The shame Carly Lewis claims veganism casts over her is more likely the ghosts of moral uncertainty, spectres that are more likely fish than cows, wondering how morality can possibly be used as ammunition in favour of murder.
