Goats Slaughtered En Masse with Guns, Spanish Activists Protest
A popular way to get rid of an invasive species, despite the fact that it’s almost ALWAYS the fault of humans, is by culling herds. This time, hunters armed with guns were sent off the coast of Ibiza, in order to do what they called protecting the native flora. Despite the fact that there are far more sensible ways to reduce or remove a herd without a brutal slaughter, the Spanish government opted for a crew of hunters whose levels of training and expertise are looking questionable.
Spanish News Today reported that according to Pacma, the animal rights party, goats were killed by gunfire from a distance, leaving many of the victims dying in agony with nasty bullet wounds that were supposed to ensure a “painless” death. The owners of the herd traditionally slaughter one goat a year, and eat it as a tradition, something that hasn’t gotten any mention from Pacma. No matter the method used for slaughter, the killing of animals is very much wrong.
According to the government in Ibiza, the animals would not be able to be removed without going to quarantine, which is why one might think a quarantine even exists in the first place. Instead, human wrongs were met with more human wrongs, and blood was shed.
