(SFW) Pornhub jumps on the single issue Pro-Whale Bandwagon

What’s in a name? With Pornhub, one doesn’t really have to ask. The free pornography website (hosting tasteful videos similar to those found on full tube xxx such as “Punished Teens” and a whole section for ladies, golly gee) is launching a “Save the Whales” campaign just in time for Valentine’s Day. In a press release from Tuesday, Pornhub stated “As part of the campaign, Pornhub will donate 1 cent for every 2000 video views on the site through February 29. The funds generated will go to the Washington-based Moclips Cetological Society, a non-profit organization devoted to protecting whales (and all other cetacean species) through knowledge and conservation.”

Corey Price, VP of the website, took the route of sexualizing the situation, because, duh. “We’re now asking our community to turn their attention to – and help save – a different type of blowhole.” And Ken Balcomb, president of Moclips Cetological Society assured viewers that “Cetaceans – whales, dolphins and porpoises – are very sexual animals and have evolved a variety of fascinating social life histories beyond simple procreation. Although our primary goal is to ensure effective conservation for cetacean species, our academic goal is to educate the public about their social and biological lifestyles that readers might find very interesting.”
I’m neither a fan of the exploitation shown in mainstream pornography nor elevating one kind of pro-animal campaign over another, so I’ll be sitting this one out. Something smells fishy, and it’s likely the exploitation of a popular animal rights sub-movement being used to generate more hits and appear to be at all ethical. A win-win for Pornhub, and a lose for those fighting for all animals.

Don’t blame vegans for the shame you feel about using animals

The shame Carly Lewis claims veganism casts over her is more likely the ghosts of moral uncertainty, spectres that are more likely fish than cows, wondering how morality can possibly be used as ammunition in favour of murder.
