Artizia Declares That Vegan Leather Is Better

Like us on Facebook:

Stop the presses – Artizia has figured out that vegan suede is better than the real thing, and they’re shouting it from the rooftops!

Okay, so they’re using their mailing list to get the word out, but still. Pop over to the Aritizia website and you’ll see the big news. The non-vegan company isn’t just making vegan clothes by chance, they’re endorsing it as the better option with an “all pros, no cons” slogan. Maybe they read my piece on how vegan leather is not worse for the environment than real leather? A girl can dream.

Banners read “our rich vegan suede is innovative, tactile and – we’re just going to say it – better than the real thing.” Consider our jaws dropped. A complete line of vegan suede (likely microfibre) items including dresses, sweaters, hats , and bags, are being highlighted for spring 2016.

We have our sneaking suspicious that a vegan employee is behind this. The company has dropped items like winter coats and pleather leggings for vegans before, but not with the sort of bold statements that are accompanying this move.

The Canadian women’s fashion boutique has countless locations in Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Toronto, Chicago, Montreal and New York. We’re hoping that their influence can be enough to not only sway shoppers, but other fashion advocates with misconceptions about suede and leather in regards to the animal agriculture industry.

Animal-free fabrics are the future. Whether or not you feel like supporting Artizia’s new endeavour, celebrate their shift, one that reflects what society is demanding – change.

I have sewed with and worn a type of vegan suede and it was definitely better than the real animal skin. Completely washable (!), soft, supple, wearable; looks and feels convincingly like the real thing.

France’s ban of faux-meat branding won’t stop veganism

Concerned about endangered animals? Stop eating them

Methods of animal conservation that support the exploitation of animals don’t exist for the animals, they exist for human profit.

What you can do if live exports disturb you

The outcry should go further than importation and should be directed at the fact that the animals in question were on their way to slaughter in the first place.
