Arby’s Trolls Vegetarians With Condiment Sandwiches
Arby’s is celebrating the leap year by trolling vegetarians.
Already commonly at the bottom of everyone’s restaurant food chain, Arby’s is welcoming vegetarians to get in on the hate.Their menu has been altered for one day only to feature full priced sandwiches without the meat. Yup, they thought it’d be fun to publicly invite people to buy a bun with condiments on it.
“At Arby’s, we’re proud of our meats, but we also understand that meat isn’t for everyone,” Rob Lynch, chief marketing officer and brand president of Arby’s Restaurant Group, said in a statement shared by CBS News. “So we’ve decided to give vegetarians a reason to visit Arby’s on Leap Day by offering a one-day menu designed specifically for them. If it goes well, we’ll likely bring back the vegetarian menu on Feb. 29 each year.” It’s so funny, we bet at least one meat-eater is choking on their roast beef right now.
This isn’t a first for the chain, who once released a ‘vegetarian support hotline’ that peddled brown sugar bacon. I’m wondering if this sort of publicity stunt actually ends with any additional support for the brand. Their attempts to capitalize on the “we hate vegetarians” idea is a bit old, and I can’t believe they haven’t picked on vegans yet. With other chains looking to get vegetarian dollars, it’s pretty hilarious that Arby’s feels like staying irrelevant instead.
