We have to taco ‘bout this.

Timeout reports that Eat Drink Vegan is putting on an epic taco showdown. On Saturday October 22nd, LA area vegans have the important task of helping to judge the best vegan taco competition.

Café Gratitude in Larchmont Village will host elite chefs of the vegan foodiverse, as they compete for bragging rights on making the most popular handheld food this side of Instagram. The heavy hitters taking part include; Dreux Ellis of Café Gratitude, Mollie and Elias Sosa Engelhart of Sage Organic Vegan Bistro, Roy Elam of Plant Food + Wine, Chandra Gilbert of Gracias Madre, Andrew Perez of Organix, Mick Weldon of 100 Tacos, Summer Phoenix of Phoenix Family Foods, Anthony Berganza of Red O and, Raul Medina of Oakland’s Taqueria La Venganza.

Will jackfruit star in the winning dish, or is cauliflower the new darling of the taco world? For the $20 ticket price, you can also compete for most tacos eaten in a day. Beer, cold brews, kombucha will wash everything down, and live music will keep it funky.

Since we can’t be in LA, you can expect to find us making do with non-award winning tacos at home (a pretty decent second place scenario).

Concerned about endangered animals? Stop eating them

The outcry should go further than importation and should be directed at the fact that the animals in question were on their way to slaughter in the first place.
