Hopefully Jon & Tracey Stewart use their new farm for vegan education
We’re hoping for less Daily Squeal, and more veganism.
Ashbury Park Press reports that the former The Daily Show host and his wife have officially purchased a 45 acre farm in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The pair are set to build a much anticipated farm sanctuary and education centre that will invite the public in next year.
For a cool $4 million, the ambiguously kind-of vegan celeb (and his more forthcoming partner) will house rescued animals from roadsides, slaughterhouses, and live markets, in partnership with Farm Sanctuary. Serving as a fourth location for the nonprofit, animals will not be used or their products sold. Additionally, an 8,400-square-foot two-story building will be used as a visitor’s centre and education space. They’ve promised classes on caring for animals and sustainable agriculture, so vegan 101 would be a great place to start.
Tracey said she’s interested in getting people excited about where their food comes from, and that 11 acres of the property will see squash, peppers, and eggplants (among other produce) grown by Robert Laurino, a farmer already running a farm stand for 80 residents from that yield.
Originally a cattle farm that downsized, it’s nice to see the property being given new purpose. If the Stewart’s hope to save more animals than just 45 acres can hold, they’ll be sure to help other’s see the necessity for veganism.
